OUR STORY

A family salt trade, built into Laos's first modern refinery.

Banboe Salt Factory traces back to 1995 as a traditional ground-water salt works in Boe Village. Today it operates under VS Trading Co., Ltd., led by Mr. Vongsakda Khamphoui — Chief Executive Officer and President of the Lao Salt Producers Association.

What started as family-run brine fields is now a fully licensed, 100%-private business supplying Laos's domestic market and international buyers, while staying rooted in the same land and the same well water that founded it.

  • 1Government-issued concession on Boe Village brine fields, secured for the next quarter-century.
  • 2No. 3 market share in Lao domestic salt, with two production processes — field evaporation and boiled brine.
  • 3Business-to-business model exporting to Korea and Japan alongside nationwide Lao distribution.
HOW IT'S MADE

From well water to woven bag.

Every batch begins underground — but splits into two different methods depending on what it becomes: iodized cooking salt, boiled over fire, or industrial salt, dried by the sun.

METHOD 1Cooking Salt — Boiled
Traditional boiling of brine in stainless steel pots
01

Boiling

Brine drawn from a well is boiled in stainless steel pots over sawdust-and-firewood fuel for around 4 hours, then rested 2–4 days to dry.

Washing, centrifuge and iodizing machinery
02

Machine finishing

Dried salt is screened and centrifuged, then sprayed with potassium iodate to reach 45 PPM iodine.

Packed cooking salt pouches in warehouse
03

Pack & warehouse

Packed into 500g and 1kg pouches for the domestic retail market, then stored ready for distributors.

METHOD 2Industry Salt — Solar-Dried
Workers raking salt at the solar drying field
01

Solar field

Brine from a deeper well is poured directly onto open fields, where sunlight — not fire — evaporates the water into a stronger, more concentrated salt.

Screening, centrifuge and grinding machinery
02

Machine finishing

Dried salt is screened, centrifuged and ground to size — no iodine added, for industrial and export use.

Bulk solar-dried salt cured before packing
03

Cure & stockpile

Cured and stockpiled before packing into 40kg woven bags for industrial buyers and export.

Labeled 40kg industry salt bags staged for pickup
04

Packed & labeled

Finished bags are labeled by grade and staged under cover — ready for industrial buyers and export pickup.
